Modlites WA season in review

Modlites WA started off the season with a promotional tour of the South West to gain some interest in the class, close to our capital city Perth. We received an overwhelming interest as this was one of the first times many people had actually seen or heard of a Modlite.

We received great support from local tracks such as Albany, Mt Barker and Manjimup who allowed us to put on a show and demonstrate the potential of this fantastic class. Many other tracks were interested in Modlites but unfortunately due to time restraints we were unable to visit them all. We will endeavor to get to even more tracks in the near future.

Modlites WA’s 2016 season up North has just come to a spectacular end! Modlites were the highlight of the last meeting for the Broome Speedway Club, making up the biggest field of cars for the night! The feedback from the crowd every meeting was fantastic and the driver appeal is growing each day with high profile drivers getting behind the wheel for a skid throughout the season including our very own WA Super Sedan state champ Warren (Woggy) Minshull, Super Sedan driver Rick Musarra from Perth & Street Stock’s man to beat Daniel Ameduri also from Perth, just to name a few. They all had huge grins after, and all reports were positive with every one of them asking, “When can I have a go next?!”

This year’s winner of the Broome 2016 season was Brent (BK) Halliday driving the #24 Leader followed by Mick Morgan in the #13 Pro and closely followed by last year’s champ Hayden Mackenzie in the Lightning #65.

Our Modlite drivers also took home some of the club’s other awards open to all divisions. BK took out the title of 'Driver of the Year', as voted by the drivers. Mick was voted ‘Most improved Senior’ & Glen Dearle took out the title of ‘Rookie of the Year’. An awesome effort all round.

This year Modlites WA were also one of the supporting divisions for the Junior State Title & have raced in different locations over Australia including Albany, Mt Barker, Manjimup, Derby, Port Hedland & Broome with next year’s calendar hopefully taking us even further.

New drivers have added to the growth of this division in WA over the past 12 months and there has been some spectacularly close racing! We look forward to expanding this division even further within the next 12 months with another promotional tour expected to take place on our travels back from the Australian title around February.

We wish our drivers (and competitors) the best of luck when they head over to South Australia for the SA & Australian Title’s in January 2017.

Modlites WA would like to thank all the Clubs, Drivers & Spectators for all their support this season and we look forward to another action-packed season in 2017.

A special thanks to the official Sponsors of Modlites WA: Torque Wear Australia – Leader Racecars Australia – BK Signs & Promotions, Blue Sky Aerial Photography, Nor West Tattoo, Kimberley Kanga and Broome Wheel Aligning & Suspension.
