Hancey Scores Australian Crown

In just his second season with the class, Klinton Hancey last Saturday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway was able to continue his strong 2017-18 season form by claiming the top honours in the Australian Modlites Title.

Continuing to hit his marks throughout the event on what was a fast track, Hancey’s consistency was vital towards achieving a strong result, with the 36-year-old racer also racking up what was his 10th feature-race victory of the season.

“The feeling after winning the Australian Title was a combination of both satisfaction and relief,” admitted Hancey, who describes his current driving style as smarter than he feels it was during his debut season in 2016-17.

“After having had such a strong start to the season on a domestic level, there’s a feeling of wanting to prove yourself on a national level as well, so to have been able to do that and achieve the goals I’d set for myself was a huge accomplishment for me.” Knowing that he would need to qualify strongly in order to give himself the best chance of achieving an Australian Title podium, Hancey did exactly that during his heat races, scoring two second-place finishes, along with a win, which was enough to earn him a place in the Gold Shootout, where he managed to come away with the win.Carrying added confidence in his car setup into the 25-lap Australian Title-deciding feature race, Hancey immediately took control of the lead from his inside front-row starting position and from there, couldn’t be pipped. Capitalising on the clear track ahead of him, which came by virtue of a number of stoppages throughout the distance, Hancey managed to control the pace out in front, going on to claim top Australian Title honours. For the remainder of the 2017-18 season, Hancey, from Kawana Waters on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, hopes to continue his winning form in order to take out the overall Pro Series and Cowboy Country Series point standings, both of which he is currently leading. His next appearance will be this Saturday night’s South Australian Title at Renmark’s Riverland Speedway, where he will attempt to collect his third title victory for the season, having also won the Wide Bay Title at Maryborough Speedway back in December.Hancey is proudly supported by the following 2017-18 season sponsors: Hancey’s Turf, Sommers Fuel Supplies, LGM, Kawana Signs, GSA, and Pro Race Cars.
