Hancey Continues Title Reign
Saying that Klinton Hancey had a massive weekend would be quite the understatement, after he raced to back-to-back NSW Modlites Title wins at Cullen Bullen Raceway on Saturday night and then just 24 hours later finished on the podium at Kingaroy Speedway in Queensland.
It was always going to be a big effort and that effort paid off for the Kawana Waters, Queensland-based driver, who following his NSW Title defence has now clinched four title victories for 2017-18 season, including the Australian Title, Queensland Title and South Australian Title.
Hancey qualified on pole position for the 20-lap deciding NSW Title feature race off the back of two heat race wins and a second place. In the feature race, he immediately powered into the lead of the race with former NSW Champion Will Butler in hot pursuit.
Having dominated the early part of the race, Hancey continued to stamp his authority and continued to set an unassailable pace throughout the duration of the race to record a comfortable win, almost two seconds clear of Butler at the fall of the chequered flag.
Not even letting the thrill of the NSW Title victory to sink in, Hancey and his team quickly packed up and drove the 11 hours north (1000km) to Kingaroy Speedway for the fourth Country Cup Series round.
In a mirrored performance of the previous night, Hancey took the win in two of the heat races and a second before winning the odds dash which meant he was top point scorer and pole position for the 20-lap feature race. However, unlike the previous night, Hancey found himself fall back into second place and on the offensive as he was looking for the lead of the race.
Around mid-race distance Hancey lost a further place to be relegated to third, but that was short lived as he was promoted back into second in the closing stages of the race, and that’s where he remained through to the finish.
“I can’t thank my crew enough for the massive efforts they put in over the weekend and it was great to defend my NSW Title,” Hancey, who after his second-place finish at Kingaroy Speedway clinched the Cowboy Cup Series, said.
“It’s been a fantastic season and it’s a great feeling to be able to continue my win at title event; however, none of it would be possible without all of the support from my team and of course my valued sponsors.”
Hancey is going to be contesting the Western Australian Title at Broome Speedway on the Saturday night of July 21. In what is the final event on the 2017-18 season calendar, Hancey is aiming to complete a clean sweep of Australian and state titles.
The next event for Hancey will be at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway (Qld) on the Saturday night of May 19 for what is going to the final Pro Series round. Hancey is the current series leader and will be looking to wrap up the point standings honours with a strong performance.
Hancey is proudly supported by the following 2017-18 season sponsors: Hancey’s Turf, Sommers Fuel Supplies, LGM, Kawana Signs, GSA, and Pro Race Cars.
